The Miao Silver Phoenix Bird Bell Tassel Torque Necklace N01 is a long statement necklace inspired by the ceremonial silverwork of the Miao people of southwest China — one of the world's oldest and most intricate jewellery traditions. A rigid silver-tone torque collar sits at the neck, threaded with a woven black cord. Below it, a cascade of hand-engraved spherical beads and a carved square bead descend to a sculptural phoenix bird figure, which crowns a large bell-shaped pendant engraved with floral and mythological motifs. The Miao people of southwest China have practised silversmithing for over a thousand years — a tradition in which silver was not merely decorative but ceremonial, protective, and a measure of family wealth. This piece is inspired by that tradition: its forms, its motifs, and its insistence that jewellery should be heard as well as seen.
This necklace is made from copper with silver-tone electroplating, finished with a hand-applied antique patina process that darkens the recessed engraved areas. The engraved beads, phoenix figure, and bell pendant are cast and finished individually. The tassel chains and bell drops are assembled by hand. The antiquing finish can be polished to any degree after purchase.
